Hello again from Zambia!
Thanks so much for all of your prayers over the past few days. We are pleased to say that the two days of ministry that the team did in the public schools went very well. The students did an excellent job of presenting the Gospel message through various Bible stories on Wednesday and the Reach 4 Life ministry on Thursday was amazing!
The Reach 4 Life club was with 70 boys at an all-boys public school in the area. Four of the students taught a lesson out of the Reach 4 Life Bibles, in order to demonstrate how easy it is to follow a Bible reading plan (that has some pretty great real-life applications included) by using those types of Bibles. Then, two students shared their very powerful and motivating testimonies in the area of purity. The missionaries were absolutely thrilled with the team’s ministry at this school. Approximately 20 of the boys gave their lives to Christ after the presentation by the team! The missionaries were impressed by the team’s demeanor in handling some pretty tough questions about such sensitive topics. Abstinence and AIDS are topics that are very rarely discussed by Zambians (according to our missionaries), and so having the team there and starting the discussion allowed the boys at the school to feel comfortable with asking questions and seeking God’s will in this area of their lives. I’ve included a picture of us at the boys school where we did this ministry.
On Friday, the team went out and did ministry in a small rural community about an hour outside of Lusaka. Rose, along with several of the girls, spent most of the day assisting the women that were cooking the large meal to feed the 100+ children that were at the event. This was a great time of fellowship, as well as ministry. The woman that they were helping to cook the meal said that other foreigners had come to her community, but none of them had ever wanted to help her or learn how to cook the way she did. She told her story to the girls, and felt extremely blessed by their kind words and actions. The other students and I put on a program for the 100+ children that were in this community. The students did an amazing job of telling different Bible stories, leading songs, playing games, and clearly presenting the Gospel message.
Today (Saturday) we are going to take part in what the Awana missionaries are calling a “Super Rally”. Isaac (the Awana missionary for Southern Zambia) has a vision for leading a spiritual crusade among the children in the area. So, we are going to take part in a large event that will reach out to many children in the city of Lusaka. Awana Zambia has been planning for this event for over a year, and we are so blessed to be a part of it. It will be a two-day event, with music, games, and many different presentations of the Gospel. We will be working alongside the Awana Zambia ministry team of staff and volunteers, which is very exciting, because if any children make a decision to follow Christ, they can immediately be plugged into both a church and Awana club by one of the ministry team members. Prayers for this 2-day event that will hopefully reach hundreds of children would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for all of the love and support that you’ve shown this entire team!
John and Rose
